A SUV crashes into an Oviedo fire station, damaging the building and a fire truck.

OVIEDO, Fla. -

A SUV crashed into an Oviedo fire station early Tuesday, damaging the building and three fire vehicles.

The BMW, which was a rental vehicle, slammed into Oviedo Fire Station 44 around 3:30 a.m., and police continue to search for the driver, who ran from the scene.

Officials said the crash caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.

Oviedo Fire Chief Lars White said the crash awakened the firefighters.

"The building shook (and firefighters) found this vehicle wedged into our fire station," White said.  "We've learned moments before the police department had given chase and broke off that chase for this vehicle.  For what reasons, I don't know at the moment."

No firefighters were injured, but an official said blood, along with a small amount of crack cocaine and prescription pills, was found inside the car.

Police are searching nearby hospitals since the driver was likely injured in the crash.

"There's pretty major damage to the building.  One of the fire engines has been taken out of service with damage.  Two other vehicles have slight damage," White said.

A backup fire truck will be used until the engine is repaired, and White said fire service to the community will not be affected.

Station 44 is scheduled to move into a new facility in 2015.
