A Casselberry police car is struck by a car while an officer tries to make a stop.

CASSELBERRY, Fla. -

A Casselberry police officer's vehicle was struck by a car Tuesday morning while an officer was attempting to make a stop in connection to a string of car burglaries, officials said.

The car burglaries occurred off Howell Branch Road and as an officer approached a vehicle , the driver sped at him, striking the officer's car before fleeing the scene, according to police.  The officer was not injured.

Winter Park police spotted the vehicle near Howell Branch Road and Temple Trail, and the vehicle crashed, prompting a search for the driver and a passenger who ran into a nearby neighborhood.

Stolen rims and stereo equipment were found in the vehicle, police said.

A search is ongoing.
