93 Catholic parishes and missions in the Central Florida area will be holding a special collection for the victims of the tornado that struck Moore, Okla. on May 20.
The special diocesan collection for tornado relief was requested by Bishop John Noonan, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando.
"Our hearts ache with the victims of the terrible tornado that struck the town of Moore," said Noonan. "We pray for the consolation of all who feel this terrible loss."
The collection will occur on Saturday and Sunday. Parishes and missions in Polk, Marion, Sumter, Lake, Volusia, Brevard, Osceola, Seminole and Orange counties will be involved. 400,000 registered parishioners in Central Florida will be participating.
All contributions received will be directed to Catholic Charities USA and used for relief and recovery efforts.
