Coast Guard airlifts Carnival passenger off Cape Canaveral coast

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -

The U.S. Coast Guard said it is medically evacuating an injured Carnival cruise passenger off the coast of Cape Canaveral on Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Coast Guard, the 27-year-old passenger on the Carnival Fantasy reported severe abdominal pain.

The Coast Guard launched from the Miami air station and picked up the passenger and a nurse more than 80 miles northeast of Cape Canaveral.

The helicopter will arrive at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach at around 1 p.m.

The man's current condition is unknown, the Coast Guard said.
