ORLANDO, Fla. -

A Colonial High School student has been arrested on Wednesday morning after a student took a loaded gun on campus, according to Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they responded to Colonial High School just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, located the student and took the student into custody.

"One student made a poor decision of bringing a loaded gun in his back pack to school today," said Colonial High School principal Doug Loftus. "The student was taken in to custody and removed from campus today. Law Enforcement advised us the campus is safe and no extra ordinary cause for concern."

Deputies said they were on campus questioning an incident that happened off campus a few days ago when they were alerted that a loaded gun was in a student's backpack.

The type of gun or why the gun was brought to school is not known.

Hours after the incident, school officials announced random metal-detector screenings will be conducted at all Orange County Public Schools through the end of the school year.

No other information was immediately available.
