A 4-year-old child has died after being pulled from a swimming pool on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship headed to Central Florida.
A 6-year-old boy also found in the pool Monday morning was revived and was flown to a hospital. A Marine helicopter flew to the Norwegian Breakaway about 40 miles off Cape Lookout, N.C., to pick up the child who survived.
A spokeswoman said Tuesday that the hospital was waiting for the boy's parents to arrive to approve releasing his condition.
The cruise line says a medical team on the ship performed CPR, but the younger child died. It's not clear if the boy was being supervised on the pool deck or if there were lifeguards.
The 4,000-passenger ship is based in New York and was headed to Port Canaveral as part of a week-long cruise that included a stop in the Bahamas.
The FBI has stepped in and launched an investigation into the drowning to be sure it was an accident.
