A 1-year-old girl was critically injured after being run over in the driveway of a Longwood home, police say.

LONGWOOD, Fla. -

A 1-year-old girl who was run over by a family member in the driveway of a Longwood home has died, police said.

The incident happened about 12:40 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Freeman Street in the Longwood Plantations subdivision.  The accident happened at the home of the girl's parents, but the car was being driven by another family member, police said.

The girl was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital and died early Sunday, police said.

Police initially told Local 6 that they had received a report about a missing child before discovering the girl had been hit.

"While police were en route, we were advised by dispatch that the child was not missing but was hit while somebody was reversing in their driveway," said Kevin Tuck, of the Longwood Police Department.

Police are investigating who was responsible for the child at the time of the incident.
