A husband and wife who developed several subdivisions in a Lake County community are now accused of stealing $1.5 million from homeowners who live there.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Mark Carson, 58, and his wife Lee Ann Carson, 57, on Friday.
The couple developed the Black Bear Reserve Community in Eustis, including the Upson Downs, Villages, and the Lakes subdivision.
Investigators say after homeowners moved in, the Carsons positioned themselves as the only members and officers of the homeowner's association and community water company. Agents say the two then took the money from the association's bank accounts. The couple is also accused of creating fake shell companies to hide the money.
Mark Carson was booked into the Marion County jail and Lee Ann Carson was booked into the Orange County jail. Both are being held on a $125,000 bond.
