ORLANDO, Fla. -

Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest times for Walt Disney World parks, and the entertainment giant expects hundreds of thousands of guests to walk through the gates to start the monstrous event.

At 6 a.m. Friday, hundreds of people flooded through the gates as the Magic Kingdom opened for the 24-hour all-nighter to kick off the summer.

"I've had a lot of coffee this morning. I have caffeine pills, lattes throughout the park," one energetic guest said.

Local 6 was there as guests started lining up before 5 a.m. for the occasion.

"We are maybe playing hooky from school so we will be here for a while ... riding rides, get some food.  I saw they have cupcakes, I'm excited for that," said Elissa Alvey, who was at the park with her 7-year-old daughter.

Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc. were just some of the big names at the morning opening.

From special entertainment to monster-themed merchandise and frightening foods, guests got a special treat for the unique event.

"We've already tried to scout out some locations to take a nap, so we are planning ahead," Matt Sanders said.

The gates at the Magic Kingdom will be open until 6 a.m. Saturday for the first time this year.
