A robber ran into quite a surprise while breaking into a Deltona home one morning -- the family's dog.

Investigators in Volusia County are asking for information from the public about a person who tried to rob a Deltona home.

The robber ran into quite a surprise while breaking into the home on Slater Drive at 4:30 one morning -- the family's dog.

The homeowner believes the robber thought no one was home since it was dark out, there were no cars in the driveway and his mother-in-law leaves for work early in the morning.

However, investigators said when the robber, dressed in all black and wearing a mask and gloves, kicked in the front door, the family's dog, Jager, attacked. The mastiff and great dane mix bit the robber as soon as he walked into the home.

"I heard a loud crash, my dog started going nuts and I jumped up ran out and he had somebody by the right arm shaking," said Christopher Ceasario, who was sleeping in a front bedroom.

Ceasario said as soon as the dog saw him, he let go of the robber and the robber ran out the front door and down the street. Ceasario immediately called 911 and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter and a K-9 unit searched for the robber, but the K-9 lost a scent at the end of the street.

Ceasario said he believes the robber jumped in a getaway car that was waiting.

The robber left a bloody handprint and some blood on the front porch which investigators are sampling for DNA. The family credits Jager for preventing something worst from happening.

"Who knows what he would have done if my dog didn't wake up, and see me sleeping in the bed, you know what I mean? Who knows," said Ceasario.

The Sheriff's Office is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone with information about this crime.
