Driver remains hospitalized after Rolex 24 crash at Daytona Speedway

A driver underwent surgery after a two-car crash during the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -

Drivers crossed the finish line Sunday at Daytona International Speedway at the Rolex 24 race.

The race was highlighted by a frightening two-car crash on the track Saturday that sent both drivers to the hospital.

Memo Gidley is currently at Halifax Medical Center with the most severe injuries. He had surgery on his left arm and leg. Local 6 has learned Gidley may also need more surgery for his back fractured during the wreck. 

Gidley was cut from his crumpled corvette after he collided with Matteo Malucelli.

Malucelli was released from the hospital Sunday evening.
