An elderly man was killed early Friday in an Orlando house fire, according to police.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of West Washington Street.

According to Orlando police, paramedics in a Rural-Metro ambulance spotted the blaze and entered the house.  They tried to rescue a man inside, but the house started to collapse and they lost verbal contact with the man, police said.
