Osceola County deputies arrested a man they said severely beat an elderly man after trying to steal from him.

Deputies said around 10:30 a.m. Friday, they responded to a home on Duxbury Drive in Kissimmee.

Upon arrival, deputies observed Justin Robertson running from the residence.

Deputies said they also saw a severely beaten 78-year old male lying on the porch with facial injuries, bleeding from his head.

Deputies said the elderly man was airlifted to ORMC with critical injuries.

Deputies spoke with witnesses who indicated Robertson became involved a verbal fight with the victim, who is a family member, officials said.

Deputies said Robertson severely beat the victim before running out of the residence to a neighbor's house.

Detectives interviewed the victim at the hospital and he indicated that the night before, he caught Robertson stealing his prescription drugs, officials said.

Deputies said early the next day, he observed Robertson taking beer and a television out of the residence, and when he confronted him, Robertson broke off a table leg and began beating him.

Deputies said during the fight Robertson took the victim's gold necklace and watch.

An 88-year old family member attempted to stop Robertson and he pushed her, injuring her wrist. She was treated for minor injuries, deputies said.

Robertson was arrested and taken to the Osceola County Jail.
