An elderly woman was found dead after a fire tore through a home on Charter Oaks Trail in Clermont.

CLERMONT, Fla. -

An elderly woman was found dead after a fire tore through a home on Charter Oaks Trail in Clermont.

"We had a five-minute response time, which was great, but just not fast enough," said Capt. Steve Race, of Lake County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters received the call at 6 p.m. Thursday.

After putting out the flames that were contained to one bedroom, they discovered a woman in her 80s, on the floor.

Firefighters don't suspect foul play in her death, but said an electrical heater may have started the fire.

"An elderly person, with this cold weather, you want to get warm, so it's the first thing you think of," said Race.

A state fire marshal is investigating the fire and was not able to release the woman's name Thursday night.
