Embattled Lakeland police chief resigns after no-confidence vote

LAKELAND, Fla. -

Local 6 has learned the police chief of Lakeland has submitted her resignation on Friday in the wake of a no-confidence vote by the police department earlier this week.

WTSP-TV reports Chief Lisa Womack's resignation goes into effect on May 1.

The Lakeland Police Department has faced numerous problems in the past year, including a sexual misconduct investigation.

WTSP reports the department scandals have resulted in the arrest of one officer, the firing of at least three, and the discipline of 27 others.
