A man and two of his three dogs were rescued from a fire Thursday morning at his Ormond Beach home.
The fire ignited at a home in the 1900 block of Nelson Avenue.
Firefighters said they found the home engulfed with flames, which were shooting through the roof.
The owner returned home and told fire officials that three dogs were inside the house.
After the fire was under control, firefighters rescued two large dogs through the window of a back bedroom and administered oxygen to them.
“It’s amazing that the dogs were able to survive a fire of this intensity,” said Scott Smoak, a division chief for Volusia County Fire Services. “The crews did an outstanding job of controlling this fire quickly.”
The third dog, a Chihuahua, was killed in the fire, officials said.
The home was destroyed in the blaze, and the state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
