Before jury selection began Monday in the George Zimmerman case, Judge Debra S. Nelson denied a defense motion to delay the second-degree murder trial.

Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara argued for the delay, saying more time is needed to go over recently obtained evidence from Trayvon Martin’s phone and a report from state audio expert Alan Reich.

“We’re not fully ready,” said O’Mara, seeking a continuance of at least two weeks.

The state objected the third motion to delay the trial.

The voice recognition experts being allowed to testify at trial remains unresolved.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in Martin’s death. He has pleaded not guilty, claiming self-defense.
