Outspoken congressman Alan Grayson uses image of burning cross in fundraising email to trumpet his claim that “the Tea Party is no more popular" than the Ku Klux Klan.

ORLANDO, Fla. -

Alan Grayson.jpgThe Republican Party of Florida is describing a fundraising email sent out by U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson as "unacceptable and deplorable."

The email has a photo depicting a burning cross with Klansmen in white robes in the background. The words "Tea Party" are transposed on the image with the burning cross serving as the letter "T."

The email was sent out earlier this week.

In a statement, Republican Party of Florida chairman Lenny Curry demanded that state Democrats condemn Grayson for making the comparison between the Klu Klux Klan and the Tea Party.

Grayson said in a statement released Wednesday that Tea Party members have a record of making racist remarks.  Grayson added "if the hood fits, wear it."
