Police say a woman opening a Clermont gas station for the day was attacked by a masked gunman, who robbed the store.

CLERMONT, Fla. -

A woman opening a Clermont gas station for the day was attacked by a gunman who robbed the store, according to police.

The armed robbery happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Shell gas station at 899 West Highway 50.

According to Clermont police, the woman was opening the store when a man carrying a black handgun rushed in behind her and demanded money. The man then fled with the cash, police said.

The video shows the clerk lock the door after he leaves, clutching her chest.

"She is a strong woman, she is doing fine, she is a strong woman," said her co-worker, Lee Mohammed.

Shell employees said this is not the first time something like this has happened to the woman. She doesn't seem to be shaken and neither are her co-workers, who say the station is back to business. They say they are confident the crook will be caught.

"Clermont Police Department is on the mark, they're good. They'll get him, guarantee it. You keep messing up, you're bound to trip, they'll get him," said Mohammed.

Police said they believe the man may have been staking out the store ahead of the robbery.

The assailant was described as a black man, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and about 145 pounds. He's 18-35 years old and was wearing a camouflage shirt, jeans and gloves, and his face was covered, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
