Deputies in Volusia County have found and arrested a 22-year-old prison inmate who failed to return from a work release program.

Marcus Lewis, of Palatka, was found in Putnam County on Tuesday afternoon. He was last seen Saturday at his day job at a McDonald's in Daytona Beach, deputies said.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Lewis, who is serving a 30-month sentence for burglary and grand theft in Putnam County, and another inmate were released to their day job at the restaurant but showed up two hours late and were fired.

The duo initially failed to return to the work release program when they were supposed to, but the other inmate had a change of heart and decided to return, said deputies.

Sheriff’s investigators on Monday obtained an arrest warrant for Lewis, charging him with escape, a second-degree felony.  Lewis was originally scheduled to be released from custody in October.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Lewis is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-TIPS.
