The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announces that it has begun a review of all cases processed by a chemist in the Pensacola Regional Crime Laboratory.

PENSACOLA, Fla. -

Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators have started reviewing about 2,600 drug cases, including many in Central Florida, that could have been compromised by an employee of the agency's Pensacola crime lab.

State Attorney Bill Eddins says criminal charges will likely be filed against the employee, whose name has not been released, sometime this week. Investigators suspect the man of stealing prescription narcotics seized as evidence in numerous cases handled by the lab.

Officials said cases in Lake, Marion and Osceola counties are part of the review.

Authorities say the man replaced the narcotics with over-the-counter drugs.
