UMATILLA, Fla. -

Lake County Animal Services saved a beagle/walker hound mix and her unborn puppies last week after a resident reported hearing the dog's distressed cries.

Henrietta, who was emaciated, anemic and not able have the puppies naturally, delivered five puppies by an emergency C-section, according to officials.

Because of Henrietta’s condition, she also couldn’t nurse the pups. An Animal Services employee will continue to foster Henrietta and the five newborn puppies will be cared for by the South Lake Animal League, officials said.
