ROCKLEDGE, Fla. -

A man was arrested in Brevard County on allegations of beating a 4-year-old with a belt because of the boy's behavior at school.

Derrick Lacarl Oneal was arrested on a charge of aggravated child abuse.

Officials said Oneal used a belt to whip the boy after the child got into trouble at school.

The beating left the boy with six bruises on his thighs, one of which was also cut, likely from a belt buckle, according to authorities.

A doctor said the boy's injuries were consistent with physical abuse, according to officials.

The relationship between the man and boy was not disclosed.
