Man, girl hurt in accidental shooting in southeast Orlando, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. -

A man and a 12-year-old girl were taken to the hospital Friday night after Orlando police say they were shot when the man's firearm accidentally discharged.

The incident happened around 7:43 p.m. Friday in the 8200 block of Le Mesa, near the Beachline and Daetwyler Drive.

The man was inside a home handling a firearm when police said it accidentally discharged, striking the man in the thigh.

A 12-year-old girl, who was the passenger in a vehicle traveling on the same street passing the home, was also struck in the arm, causing a minor injury, according to police.

Both were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other details were provided.
