MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. -

Brevard County deputies say a man has died while working on cutting down trees on Tuesday morning.

Deputies said Brian Boyle, 43, was killed after being hit by a tree limb while working on cutting down a tree on Teal Street in Merritt Island.

Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports workers for Gibney's Tree Experts tied a rope around a branch of a large pine tree, then wrapped the rope around a different tree, planning to pull the limb away from the home as it fell.

Boyle was on the ground, holding the rope as the limb was cut, according to deputies, and the rope was wrapped around his hands, preventing him from freeing himself when the limb fell and pulled him into its path.

Boyle was taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital in critical condition just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, where he died, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.
