A man was arrested on suspicion of picking up his son from a Seminole County elementary school while drunk and assaulting the principal.
James Allison, 29, of Winter Park, was arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication, disruption of a school function, assault on a school staff member and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, Allison walked to Eastbrook Elementary School in Winter Park to pick up his son and was nearly struck by a vehicle. He then started to leave the school while stumbling and leaning on his son, and school officials asked him to return so they could contact the boy's mother, deputies said.
Allison and his son were taken to a school conference room, and the boy began crying, making Allison upset, the Sheriff's Office said.
Allison asked repeatedly if he was under arrest and was told that school officials were trying to resolve the situation, deputies said. A short time later, Allison assaulted the school principal, Rick Carver, stating, "If you talk to my son again I will kill you with my bare hands," according to the Sheriff's Office.
Allison was placed under arrest and drug paraphernalia was found in his pocket, deputies said.
No other information was released.
