Tenant shoots, kills intruder in burglary, Melbourne police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. -

Melbourne police have identified the victim in a shooting over the weekend.

28-year-old Jermaine Williams was shot and killed during the early morning hours Sunday on Mathers Street, according to police.

Police said Williams was in the process of committing an occupied burglary to a residence, with three people home at the time. One of residents in the home awoke and confronted Williams in the kitchen and shot Williams.

When police got to the scene, they attempted lifesaving measures while taking the Williams to Holmes Regional Medical Center. He died at the hospital
