SANFORD, Fla. -

Police said they caught the man they say tried to grab a teenage girl while she was walking home from school Friday in Sanford.

Sanford police said before 4 p.m. Friday, the teen was walking home from school near 27th Street and Palmetto Avenue, and was contacted by a suspicious man, later identified as Jerome Gipson.

Police said Gipson grabbed the girl by her arm and hair, and swung her around. Police said the teen fought him off by swinging her arms and kicking him in his private parts.

At no point did Gipson speak to the girl. Police said the girl went to an adult who contacted police.

Police said they found Gipson about a block from where he tried to grab the girl.

Gipson was taken to the Seminole County Jail and booked in on battery charges.
