Mayor Jacobs gives State of Orange County address
Mayor Teresa Jacobs on Friday touted Orange County's technology industry and the numerous jobs and advancements it brings to the area in her State of the County address.
During her 25-minute speech at Full Sail University, she focused specifically on medical advancements, such as robotics, artificial intelligence and other simulation technologies being developed in Orange County that could benefit wounded warriors and veterans across the country.
Some of the simulation training and development is being implemented at Lake Nona Medical City and Full Sail University. Jacobs said the industry could create thousands of jobs.
She said the economy is moving forward, with unemployment in the county dropping from 11.3 percent in 2010 to the current rate of 6.4 percent.
The possibility of a new soccer stadium and professional soccer team was not mentioned in the address, though there has been talk that it could impact the local economy.
She also spoke about a new sustainability initiative focusing health and livability in Orange County by addressing community issues in a holistic manner.
