Boyce in Court
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -

Michael Boyce, the man who deputies said killed his pregnant wife and one of his unborn twins went before a judge on Saturday.

Boyce, who was quiet and wearing a protective vest was assigned a public defender after the judge told him he was going to be held on a no bond status.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, it was initially thought that the incident was a suicide.  After investigating, however, officials said Boyce shot his wife, 23-year-old Alexis Boyce, in the head, killing her.

Authorities said Alexis lived in the apartment with her husband and both of her parents. The parents were in their bedroom they heard the gunshot, deputies said.

Michael Boyce initially told deputies that Alexis had shot herself. He said Alexis said she was depressed and asked to see Michael's handgun. It wasn't until he gave contradictory statements about what hand the gun was in and also confronted with evidence at the scene that he told detectives he shot his wife in the head.
