1958: U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs into law the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which creates the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

NASA is looking to pay volunteers $18,000 to lie in bed--but there's a catch.

You have to lie in bed for 70 days, and can't get up. Volunteers who take part in the study will be able to read books, play on the computer, and watch television.

The science behind the study is to research the impact of long-term spaceflight and what it does to the human body.
