NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -

11-year-old Mark Moore who was taken to the hospital last Thursday after he was struck while riding his bike in New Smyrna Beach died on Wednesday, police say.

When investigators arrived, the bike was still under the front of the 2002 Honda Civic, driven by 19-year-old Katelin Evans, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Paige Avenue and Corbin Park Road. Troopers said Moore was thrown from his bike after being hit.

The boy was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center and then transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he died almost a week after the initial incident.
