A 27-year-old North Dakota man is dead after he was struck while riding his motorcycle in Volusia County.

The incident happened after 6:30 p.m. Friday at State Road 40 and Creek Haven Road.

The man was traveling eastbound on S.R. 40 on his 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Troopers said 70-year-old Robert Bendlin, of Ormond Beach, was traveling westbound on S.R. 40 in his 2006 Saturn SUV and 60-year-old Lynn Temple, of Palm Coast, was traveling eastbound on S.R. 40 in her 2009 Nissan, behind the motorcyclist.

For an unknown reason troopers said the motorcyclist traveled into the westbound lanes and the front of his motorcycle struck the front of Bendlin's SUV. The man was ejected from his motorcycle.

Temple was unable to avoid the motorcycle after it came to a rest in the eastbound lanes. Troopers said Temple's Nissan struck the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was killed in the crash. According to FHP, he was not wearing a helmet. He has not been identified by FHP at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
