Explosions in a local neighborhood left neighbors on edge Monday night.

Explosions in a local neighborhood Monday night left neighbors on edge.

The explosions happened on Edgewater Drive near Clarcona Ocoee Road in Orange County.

Linda Freeman said she heard the explosions.

“Like a bomb, intense. Like, 'Bam,' a huge explosion, like, chemicals exploding,” said Freeman. “The flames were hot, real super high, very scary.”

By the time Orange County Fire responded to the home, neighbors were already working to put out the fire, which started in the back yard.

Eric Harrison was treated for inhaling smoke as he tried to keep the fire from spreading to the house.

“I didn't want her place to burn up,” said Harrison. “I went over there and was trying to push all the stuff from her house so nothing would burn.”

After firefighters put out the flames, a state fire marshal investigator spoke to witnesses.

A representative with Orange County Fire Department said relatives of the homeowner were cleaning up the outside of the home, where a renter had been staying, when they came across two chemicals, which caused an accidental explosion.

But neighbors believe the renter was up to no good.

“They weren't doing legal things. They've had disgusting fires and could smell chemicals being burned,” said Freeman.

Firefighters wouldn't say what the chemicals were, but say there were no signs of meth.

No charges will be filed.
