Orlando police: Bicyclist dies, officer hurt in crash

A bicyclist was killed and an Orlando police officer was taken to a hospital after a crash, officials say.

ORLANDO, Fla. -

A bicyclist was killed and an Orlando police officer was taken to a hospital after a crash Sunday evening.

The crash, involving a marked Orlando Police Department vehicle and an adult bicyclist, happened before 7:30 p.m. Sunday on South Kirkman Road near Pine Shadows, south of LB McLeod, according to police.

Police said the bicyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer, identified as Isaias Rivera Montoyo, suffered minor injuries, was taken to a hospital.  Montoyo was expected to be released, authorities said.

Witnesses said Montoyo was not at fault for the crash and was traveling at a normal rate of speed, according to Orlando police.

Police said the crash was not at an intersection.

No charges are pending and alcohol is not a factor, police said.
