ORLANDO, Fla. – The family of a man in an unsolved murder hope to get answers by speaking directly to the community.
Investigators said Thiago Neves, 24, was killed outside the 7-Eleven on South Kirkman and Vineland roads in July.
According to police, Thiago Neves walked toward a red Hyundai Veloster in the parking lot and within minutes, he was shot.
"He was going to enter the store and at that point, it looks like he turned his attention to that vehicle in which he walks over to very briefly," Orlando police Detective Barbara Sharp said. "It looks like he's standing about 5 feet away from the vehicle and just kinds of shrugs his shoulders and walks away."
Thiago Neves later died at a hospital as a result of his injuries, officials said. Police said the Veloster left the scene of the deadly shooting.
Police have not identified a suspect and no witnesses have come forward regarding the shooting.
Officials told News 6 they believe there was a road rage incident between the driver of the Hyundai Veloster and Thiago Neves before he pulled into the 7-11.
"If you happen to have seen (the road rage incident). If maybe you are a Lyft driver or Uber driver and had a camera in your car that might have captured the two vehicles, that would be critically important to us," Sharp said.
Thiago Neves' family held a news conference to speak about him in an effort to convince witnesses to speak up.
"We hope that while this tragic event has happened, we hope that his life continues through all the people he's touched. His kind soul will always remain with us," Neves' brother Marcos Neves said.
A reward of up to $5,000 could be rewarded to someone who steps forward with information on the whereabouts of the person involved in the shooting or other details about the shooting.
"All we're looking for is the opportunity to end this chapter in our lives and continue grieving for him," Marcos Neves said.
