ORLANDO, Fla. -

Orlando city leaders are expected to approve the replacement for outgoing Police Chief Paul Rooney.

Deputy Chief John Mina was tapped to become the new police chief in early February when Rooney announced he would retire on March 31.

City councilmembers will vote on Monday to approve the choice of Mina.

Mina has served 23 years in the Orlando Police Department, working in a number of divisions including West Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Drug Enforcement. Mina was also a member of the SWAT Team for 17 years.

If approved, Mina will become Orlando's 38th police chief.
