COCOA, Fla. -

A 34-year-old pedestrian was killed earlier Wednesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while walking along a darkened stretch of highway in Cocoa, traffic investigators report.

Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports the crash happened about 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Grissom Parkway and Camp Road.

Investigators said Philip Underwood, of Cocoa, was walking on the east side of Grissom Parkway, just north of Camp Road when the right front side of a Volkswagen Jetta driven by 27-year-old Kristin Sirp struck him. Investigators said Underwood landed along the grassy shoulder of the roadway.

Sirp was not injured and alcohol was not a factor in her case, investigators reported.

Blood alcohol tests are pending on Underwood and investigators are still trying to determine where he was along the roadway when he was struck, reports show.
