JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The photo of a Jacksonville officer embracing a woman outside his patrol car is making the rounds on social media.

The photo has been sent to WJXT dozens of times and a woman who claims to have taken the photo Monday outside the Denny's restaurant at the intersection of Interstate 295 and Blanding Boulevard called the newsroom.

Emailers and posts on social media were condemning the officer's behavior:

"Shouldn't he be looking for criminals instead?" - Reek Robinson

"So this what we spend our money on flirting & playing outside on city time hmmmm do better JSO." - Renee Walker

WJXT sent the photo to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Lauri-Ellen Smith, special assistant to the sheriff responded with this statement:

"I can confirm for you that this is a Zone 4 JSO patrolman, Officer (Irving) Diaz. The woman in the photo is his significant other. We are looking into the matter to determine if any policies or procedures were violated."
