Man drowns off of Ponce Inlet, Volusia County Beach Patrol says

Volusia County Beach Patrol says the man who was pulled from the water near Ponce Inlet has died.

PONCE INLET, Fla. -

Volusia County Beach Patrol says the man who was pulled from the water on Tuesday afternoon near Ponce Inlet has died.

According to officials, Ponce Inlet lifeguards were told someone was struggling near the intersection of Beach Avenue and South Atlantic Avenue.

Lifeguards found the man floating unresponsive in the water after about 10 minutes of searching.

Volusia County Beach Patrol says they originally received a call at around 2 p.m. that three people had gone missing in an area that officials deem a heavy rip current area.

Two of the people made it out of the water but the third, a man in his 20s, did not and was found by lifeguards.

Officials said the deceased man did not know how to swim.
