'Power Hour' for Marion County high school students

Most adults get a one-hour lunch break at work, so why shouldn't students?

At Ocala's West Port High School, that's exactly what students have been getting since 2009, according to Ocala.com.

At 11 a.m. every morning, all 2,300 students are released for 60 minutes to do whatever they choose. Many choose to grab a quick bite for lunch, and others choose to meet for sports and clubs or catch up on schoolwork.

The school principal said the failure rate has gone from about 18 percent down to 3.4 percent.
