Percival the dog, who was being treated at Lake County Animal Services Shelter for his wounds, was adopted on Tuesday by a Volusia County family.

The adoption came after Deana Oseniek’s 7-year-old son saw Percival on the news, and said that the Treeing Walker Coonhound would make the perfect addition to the family.

“I had to tell them if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be,” Osenieks said.

The whole family – two children and three dogs included – visited Percival at the Lake County Animal Services shelter, and decided that Percival would make an idea friend for their Redbone Coonhound Shotgun.

Shotgun, who was also adopted from the Lake County Animal Services Shelter, was named after suffering two bullet wounds.

“Percy has the same demeanor as Shotgun, real gentle and sweet, and we are really excited,” Osenieks said. “The kids adore the hounds because they are so cuddly and affectionate.”

Percival will be treated to a carefree lifestyle in New Smyrna Beach with plenty of room to roam.

“I think he is going to have an awesome life,” Osenieks said. “He’s a good fit. He is a sweet dog.”
