Locals came together Monday to rally to get Tim Tebow on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The rally began at 3:16 p.m. Monday at EverBank Field parking lots N and M on the west side of the stadium. It was expected to last three hours and 16 minutes.
The rally is expected to last 3 hours and 16 minutes, a reference to the Bible passage John 3:16.
Rally organizers are asking people to bring Jags and Tebow signs, banners and gear. The website and Facebook page also asked that those who attend the rally to be "tactful and respectful."
The "Jags-Tebow Why Not?" campaign website states that the purpose of the group is to generate interest in having Tebow on the Jacksonville Jaguars team. The website answers the question as to why they are rallying for Tebow. It states "WHY THE HECK NOT? The Jags are going nowhere in 2013 if Opening day is any indication. An embarrassing 28-2 home loss to the only team as bad as us last year. Look at the photos above. That is 5 minutes to go in a NFL game. Stadium empty."
The website goes on to state,"Love him or hate him ....Tim Tebow behind center in a Jacksonville Jaguar uniform would change everything."
Organizers say they want to "shame" the Jaguars into getting Tebow on the team.
The group plans to put "Jags-Tebow Why Not?" signs throughout Jacksonville, while creating bumper stickers, shirts and hats.
Tebow is currently a free agent. He previously played quarterback for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets before being cut prior to this season by the New England Patriots.
He played college football for the University of Florida, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and appearing on BCS National Championship-winning teams in the 2006 and 2008 seasons. Tebow was selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Tebow is also known for his outspoken Christian faith.
