A Virginia Beach sixth-grader, who was originally suspended from school for taking a razor blade from a fellow student causing harm to himself, has been allowed to return to school.

Adrionna Harris notified the administration at her Virginia middle school about taking away the razor blade from the student, WAVY reports. School officials then said that she'd be receiving a 10-day suspension in accordance with the school's zero-tolerance policy on weapons.

According to WAVY, the family was told at the Thursday suspension hearing that the expulsion recommendation was off the table, but Harris still faced long-term suspension.

Late Thursday afternoon the school's principal called the family and told them Harris could return to school Friday.
