An incident with an unruly passenger aboard a Virgin Australia plane on its way to Indonesia triggered reports of a hijacking Friday.

Virgin Australia airport manager Heru Sudjatmik told the Sydney Morning Herald that a drunk passenger on flight VA41 from Brisbane to Denpasar tried to get into the cockpit of the plane but was stopped by the crew.

Virgin contradicted earlier reports, confirmed by the Indonesian military, that the plane had been hijacked.

But the reports turned out to be false, Virgin said in a statement. "At no point was the safety of our passengers ever in question," the airline said.

The plane landed safely at its destination of Bali, said spokeswoman Christine Choi. Authorities removed the disruptive passenger.
