Local 6's Justin Warmoth reports on a fire that broke out on I-95.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -

An RV fire shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Monday afternoon for hours.

The fire occurred near exit 173 on I-95 southbound at around 3 p.m.

Brevard County Fire Rescue said the large camper was towing a Jeep Cherokee and that two occupants and a dog got out of the fire safely.

"Everything looked fine. I looked behind me then I saw a ball of fire out by the motor where the radiator is and I got off the road as quickly as I could," said motorhome owner Tom Librandi.

Librandi said he was in the midst of a family vacation with his wife and dog from Pennsylvania to Miami when their 40-foot motorhome ignited.

"I got off the road right away, I told my wife grab the dog and get out," Librandi said. "I grabbed my fire extinguisher and it's funny I just saying yesterday 'where's my fire extinguisher?' Bad omen I guess."

Librandi said he was going 73 mph when the RV ignited.

"We got a bunch of ashes, we lost everything, but we still have our lives and our friends and all of the good people that helped us here," said Librandi.

Traffic was being diverted to U.S. 192 as authorities investigated. Southbound lanes were reopened at around 4:30 p.m.
