Sanford police deliver George Zimmerman evidence to FBI, Department of Justice

George Zimmerman has been found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Get up to speed on the key events and issues that have led to this point.


Sanford police said on Monday that they delivered evidence from the George Zimmerman case to the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder in the death 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by a six-person jury.

The evidence, including Zimmerman's gun, was shipped to the FBI and DOJ on Monday. TheĀ  DOJ started an investigation into Martin's death shortly after the shooting, but no additional charges have been filed.

Also on Monday, Seminole County Sheriff's Office said Zimmerman helped rescue a family out of an overturned vehicle last week. It was the first sighting of Zimmerman since his acquittal on July 13.
