Sanford police investigate $2K attempted shoplifting at Victoria's Secre

SANFORD, Fla. -

Sanford police are investigating another attempted theft at the Victoria's Secret store in the Seminole Towne Center.

The most recent incident occurred on Sept. 12 where police said two men and two women came into the store and went into to different rooms of the store.

An associate reported saying they saw one men pushing something into his Aeropostale bag, according to police. When the store manager asked to see what was in his bag, the man said "nothing" and showed her an empty bag.

When the manager asked to see the other bag, the man gave it to her and ran out of the store. The manager found $2,000 in merchandise in that bag, police said.

Last week's attempted theft marks the latest in a string of reported shoplifting from the same store in Seminole Towne Center. In August, two women stole an estimated $800 worth of items from the store and in July, thieves hit the same store, stealing about $1,000 worth of clothing.

In 2011, nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from the store.

Police say that the stolen merchandise usually ends up being sold online or in local communities, where they have an easier time catching the suspects.

It's not clear if the previous thefts are related to the attempted shoplifting incident.
