Jaden Vasquez Vallejo, who attended Meadow Woods Elementary School in Orlando, died about an hour after the crash, which happened around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Landstar Boulevard and State Road 417.
According to the FHP, Jaden was walking his bike in a crosswalk when he was struck by the semi, which was hauling wood roof frames.
"Jaden went first, pushing his bike into the crosswalk, and as he got into the crosswalk, the truck was coming down the ramp before he made his turn onto Landstar and did not stop," said Sgt. Kim Montes.
Jaden was taken to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando and later died, troopers said.
No one else was injured.
An investigation is ongoing, and it's not yet known if the driver, a 47-year-old Winter Haven man, faces charges.
Some parents say they're outraged that there are no walk signals or a crossing guard at the intersection.
"Nothing personal against the driver, but if there was a stop sign there, that would prevent it," said Steve Gaspa, whose daughter attends Meadow Woods Elementary School. "He'd be thinking 'stopping' as opposed to 'I'm going to look left and go.'"
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call the FHP at 407-737-2213.
The FHP initially said the boy was riding his bike when he was hit.
