Senators propose fingerprinting at airport security

Under a new proposal added to a major immigration reform bill, foreigners leaving the United States would have to submit to mandatory fingerprinting at the nation's 30 busiest airports.

Orlando International Airport is the 13th busiest airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The fingerprinting amendment was added to the Senate bill on Monday. Senators say the ultimate goal is to create a nationwide biometric system to keep track of visitors.

According to The Associated Press, current law already requires a biometric system. However, lawmakers believed a nationwide system would be too expensive to put into the amendment.

The biometric system would have to be created and working at the 30 busiest airports, including Orlando International Airport, within six years.
